2006: A Year in Review

It is now the very last day in 2006, and presuming there won't be a major earthquake in the next 16 hours, there won't be any new news or events. So here is a list of major news stories from 2006 that stand out in my mind and a list of personal events.

WORLD
-Saddam Hussein is tried and hung
-Pluto is no longer a planet
-Midterms are held; the GOP loses their majority
-Presidential hopefuls pop up, setting the stage for what will certainly be a very lively race in 07-08
-School shooting spree kills many and scares all
-North Korea's Kim Jong Il starts a nuclear scare
-Gay marriage, immigration, global warming, and the Iraq war are the hot topic issues
-Britian stops a mass terrorist plot to blow up commercial planes and security gets 10 times tighter
-Gerald Ford, Peter Boyle (Frank on Everybody loves Ray), Betty Friedan, Steve Irwin, Aaron Spelling, and several others die
-Darfur, Sudan becomes the next big African problem

PERSONAL
-I turn 16 and get my driver's license
-Take my first AP test and get a 5 (and forget anything about America two minutes later)
-Jenny gets a new eye and it gets a name and gender
-Cassie starts her second year at Madison and furthers her study of poli sci.
-Go to Green Bay twice: once in February for the Badger Hockey Game and in August for the PPCC reception (good times)
-Cassie and I start watching House and never really stop
-Popsicles and law and order: svu become a summer tradition
-Spend a week in a cabin in Crivitz, learn to canoe, hear a loon, see a lake during a tornado and massive thunderstorm, get sunburned (it was a very interesting week)
-Saw V for Vendetta, decide it is the best movie
-Discover tons of new music and songs including Tony Bennett, Sandi Thom, Badly Drawn Boys, Brett Dennen, Coldplay, Jack Johnson, Bob Dylan, and lots of british rock
-I spend a weekend in Arizona to see KC and Deneen get married and have lots of fun in the sun
-A tower of red, plastic cups in constructed in Cassie's room

I'm sure I forgot some things, but that's how it goes. It was one hell of a year and I'm sure 2007 will only be more exciting, challenging, and interesting.

You've got to believe
It'll be alright in the end
You've got to believe
It'll be alright again
And nobody knows
What's gonna happen tomorrow
So don't let go
Now we've come this far
